GEOLOGICAL MAP OF THE WORLD   1:25.000.000
Published in 2000
Scales : 1:25 000 000 at Equator (Mercator projection), for the 2 main sheets
1/26 000 000 for Antarctic and 1/17 000 000 for Arctic (stereographic projections)
3 sheets: Old World, New World, Polar areas and legend
Total overall size (3 assembled sheets): 196 cm x 100 cm

This second edition, coming after the first one published in 1990, has been entirely revised in order to show a clear distinction between sedimentary, volcanic extrusive, and endogenous dated formations. The geology of the oceans has been also updated according to the most recent magnetic and satellite-gravimetric data. Positions of the main volcanoes and meteoritic craters were added to the map. The new cartographic conception of the map allows a rapid visual reconstruction of the main plates and sub-plates of the global tectonics.
This geological wall map is the only one existing today that presents the world geological setting at a glance. There is a clearly distinguishable contrast between the continents - whose rocks may attain an age up to nearly 4 billion years&endash; and the oceanic crust - whose age does not exceed 200 million years.
The Mercator projection and the 3 sheets presentation provide a choice of centring the assembled maps either on the Atlantic (if one wishes to emphasize the Atlantic sea-floor spreading and the subsequent continental drift) or on the Pacific (to emphasize the phenomena of subduction with the Pacific "Ring of Fire").
This attractive map constitutes a first class teaching aid for geology and anyone passionately interested in geology.

The Seismotectonic Map of the World is the result of a compilation of worldwide major seismic data spanning five millennia. Earthquakes are represented by groups of symbols classified according to their magnitude (more than 6.0) or intensity (more than VIII). These data have been plotted onto a continental and oceanic geostructural and neotectonic base map, together with data concerning plate kinematics, significant maximum horizontal stress orientations and the main recent and present-day active volcanoes.
The characteristics and frequency of the data presented on the map provide a global overview of seismicity, which reflects the geodynamics of plate-tectonics, deformation types, relative motion vectors and velocities at both divergent margins and their correlative convergent margins within collision belts and subduction zones. The results presented on this map should serve to heighten awareness of these events and their secondary effects among the general public and also to improve programmes for earthquake-risk mitigation.
