WILLIAM SMITH`S 1815 GEOLOGICAL MAP OF ENGLAND AND WALES
A classic reproductionof the first ever geological map of England & Wales and the subject of Simon Winchester´s best-selling book “The Map that Changed the World”.
William Smith´s famous geological map of England and Wales with part of Scotland is now available a high quality, full colur, half-scale reproduction.
Originally, the map was not published as a single sheet, its large size and the limitations of printing presses in the early 19^th century meant that it had to be published in fifteen sections, each folded into six panels. If it had ever been published as a single sheet at its originale scale of five miles to the inch, the assembled map would habe been eight feet long by six feet wide. The high quality reproduction has been created digitally from the original map panales beld by the British Geological Survey. The map is reproduced a half-scale (ten miles to the inch) and measures approximately  133 x 93 cm.
